Fleshly Response (2012) is a kinetic sculpture. A skin-like silicone slab is hung from the top of the structure. The silicon slab vibrates as the small hammer, which is attached to the structure, hits the slab periodically.

This artificially reproduced vibrating flesh mimics the moment of autonomic bodily response towards physical, cognitive and emotional events. Our uncontrollable bodily responses, such as heart rate, blood pressure, sweating, pupil dilatation and shivering, represent dynamic adjustments to the auto-regulatory functions that keep us ‘alive’ and are integrated most strongly with ‘emotions.’
My close observation of what to be a human being leads to this piece. The human flesh-like silicone slab and its reproduction of emotional agitation seem uncanny. Because, it is more than just somewhat frank expressions, and it is unmanageable.
In the situation of we being slowly becoming (almost unnoticeably) uncomfortably impassive to our surroundings, experience and events, the work suggests to think what is pervasive lack in our lives to be being awake.
